Choosing your perfect wedding photographer can be quite a challenge. You want a wedding photographer that understands you as a couple and knows exactly what kind of wedding photographs to create for you. How do you go about getting your perfect wedding photographer booked? I am going to go through the questions you should be asking your wedding photographer and how to know if they're right for you and your wedding.
Firstly, you need to have a think about what kind of style of wedding photography you like. There are so many different styles of wedding photography, for instance, my style of wedding photography is more natural rather than formal. I like to take wedding photographs in a documentary or reportage style and capture the moments you may miss on your wedding day. I love to capture portraits of people and guests in a natural way when they aren't so aware of the camera. This is how I feel I get the best photographs as they are less staged and people tend to be less afraid of a natural wedding photographer.
Avoid amateur/student photographers! This is important, and I can't stress this enough. There is general consensus that anyone can be a photographer, and therefore anyone can be a wedding photographer. This, in my opinion, is not true. There is a huge difference between someone who has been photographing weddings for years and has heaps of experience and your Uncle Joe who has a pretty big camera and likes to take pictures. If you want to be able to capture those special moments on your wedding day ( the most special and memorable day of your whole life ) do not risk it with an amateur photographer. Book yourself a professional wedding photographer and you will not regret it!
Book someone you like. Your wedding day should be the happiest day of your lives! The last thing you want is a wedding photographer who is super loud and going to boss you both around on your big day! I also think there's nothing worse than having your wedding photographer shout at all your guests and order them around. I consider myself as more of a stealth wedding photographer. I think that natural wedding photographs are the best and I prefer to shoot when people are relaxed and simply enjoying the day. I don't like to boss anyone around especially the bride and groom. It is your day and I work around you and I will take the wedding photographs that you want not the other way round! I also think it's important that you get along with your wedding photographer - I always feel so privileged to be chosen by couples that I get to be a part of their special day. It is important to choose a wedding photographer that you can bond with and have a laugh with - that way your wedding photographs will be so much more natural.
Location is worth thinking about. Where are you planning on getting married? For instance, if you are looking for a wedding photographer in West Yorkshire, then it is a lot simpler than if you are looking for a wedding photographer for a destination wedding in Morocco! I am available to book as a wedding photographer in West Yorkshire, across the UK and for destination weddings in Europe. For more information on booking me as your wedding photographer, please get in touch and we can meet to discuss your requirements.
What is included in your wedding photography package? It is vitally important you know what you are paying for. Make sure you read the small print of your wedding photography contract and be sure you're happy with it. This is why I like to keep my wedding photography packages simple - no hidden costs, no surprises. Most importantly, I don't cover all your wedding photographs in watermarks. Watch out for wedding photographers doing this!
It worth asking if your wedding photographer offers an engagement shoot. I feel that these pre-wedding shoots are really helpful for both photographer and couples. Firstly, it gives everyone the chance to get to know each other before the wedding day. It also gives you the chance to become more comfortable with getting your photograph taken, so on your wedding day, you are much more relaxed about this. If you book me as your wedding photographer, I always go through some simple poses on engagement shoots which we can then replicate on your wedding day. It helps with the running of the day as well as we can go through scheduling to make sure we have time to do some couples' shots without interfering with your day too much.
If you would like to meet up for a free, no obligation consultation, simply get in touch and we can go through exactly what you want from your wedding photographer.
